The DHC6 – better-known as the Twin Otter – was first purchased in 1976. Greenland Air had previously chartered an aircraft for two years from the Canadian operator Bradley Air Services/First Air to operate services to the DYE2 and DYE3 radar stations on the inland ice for the USAF. Here, they replaced two C130 Hercules aircraft from the USAF.
