Sikorsky S61N

The first three Sikorsky S61N helicopters arrived in Greenland in 1965. For the first time, the S61 helicopters were used for civil aviation and their importance for the development of Greenland cannot be stressed too much! The S61 has connected the country, been used on search and rescue operations, on offshore operations in connection with oil exploration and has undertaken transport of patients etc. Eventually, Greenland Air had 8 S61 helicopters and these aircraft became an absolutely indispensable part of the community in Greenland. Air Greenland still has two S61s today.
